I am gearing up for our household vacation to the beach up coming week and am undoubtedly in the “hustle” phase of packing and preparing. Everywhere I look, I’m reminded of things that I require to get settled, that I require to place into spot or that I want to pack before we leave on Friday and our residence sitter requires over—it’s enough to drive this OCD lady mad!
The one brilliant light is my excitement for this evening’s styled shoot with my friend and photographer Liz Cook (click that link to see her gorgeous new site!). Thankfully, I had almost everything packed and prepared to go for this event ages in the past, including my DIY floral fabric chargers. In situation you want to try the undertaking out for by yourself, I documented the straightforward peasy no-sew approach and you can get the two-phase tutorial below.
- Fabric (I employed this a single from Joann Fabric)
- A 14-inch diameter round template (I utilised a lampshade)
- Material or everlasting marker
- Scissors
The inspiration for the complete photoshoot was this material. You may have recognized it if you, as well, are a die-difficult follower and fan of Emily Henderson. She not too long ago put with each other a roundup of on-line fabric sources, and as quickly as I noticed the print pictured under, I knew it was “the 1.” It was a bit pricey, but I ordered just 1 yard and it was more than enough to make 6 fabric chargers, plus I have adequate for a throw pillow cover, too.
The initial phase is to lay your material upside down on a flat surface, and then spot your lampshade—or no matter what round template you finish up using—on best of the material. Use your marker to trace the outdoors of the circle onto the fabric, and then lower it out employing scissors.
Though I considered that I may well have to do something about the edges (hem them, include trim to mask the rough edges, and so on.), this material is of such substantial quality that it’s nevertheless just as crisp as the outer completed edges of the bolt I obtained. If right after a bit of use I begin to see little strings appear, I could often use Fray Check to prevent any more fraying.
I am just so thrilled by the assortment of color and pattern these chargers afford me. When topped with a white plate, the faux charger adds just the right volume of personality to the placesetting. And, yes, in case you’re asking yourself, you also could feel of these as placemats, but I went into this venture hoping to add a thin perimeter of pattern to my white plates, just as I would have with a conventional charger. I don’t think that the diameter is quite massive ample to call these placemats, but you could simply pick to make them a small bigger to intentionally make by yourself some pretty floral mats—the choice is yours!
Stay tuned in a couple of weeks for the full reveal of my springtime soirée, coming quickly to DGD—and want me luck that tonight’s shoot goes off without a hitch or a thunderstorm!
