Very excited to share a fun project we worked on last month with one of my favorite designers, Emily Henderson, and the new Pillowfort collection from Target! Jason + I moved a few months ago and we’ve been working on designing our new home since the day we moved in. While we love doing things ourselves, when the opportunity to work with Emily to design our daughter’s playroom (and our new nursery) presented itself, we jumped at the opportunity….we couldn’t wait for our collab to begin! I’ve been a fan of Emily’s work since discovering her on HGTV’s Design Star, so it was so fun to work with her and experience her expertise in our own home.
Our new home has an open loft upstairs near our daughters bedrooms, so we decided to convert the loft to a playroom. However, since moving in we’ve been working so hard on our recently redesigned site and other GWS projects, that we didn’t have time to advance our project beyond the original idea. Enter Emily!
Since the loft is an odd space, Emily’s expertise could not have been more appreciated. During our first meeting with Emily, we rattled off a few goals for our playroom:
• Create a dedicated space for arts and crafts
• Give us a cozy space for reading (and homework in the future)
• Let our girls play….create a sense of fun and space for games, dolls + where our girls can just be kids 🙂
After hearing our list of needs for the space, Emily introduced us to Target’s brand new Pillowfort collection. Pillowfort was perfect for us, because it’s created for kids, but designed in a way that will make parents love it too – did you see that panda pillow above?! 🙂
Reading Nook
This is probably my favorite part of the room! Emily designed a daybed for us to fit perfectly in front of the window. I just love the pop of bright pink for the cushions and all the fun pillows. It’s the perfect space to curl up with Sienna and Dakota and read books (or take a nap if they let us 🙂
Oh, and that wallpaper – right?! Just love it. It’s by Sissy + Marley for Jill Malek. It’s a great whimsical touch for the space and it creates such a cozy feeling once you step into the nook. Everything else is from Target and you can shop this look below!
A Place for Arts + Crafts
How cute is the craft table area?! I find Sienna at this table at least a few times a day and I’m sure Dakota will join her when she’s big enough. 🙂 She loves coloring here and working on projects. And those mint chairs, right?! Perfect for a 3 year old, but mom can fit on them also. And we of course needed a spot to hang all her tutus and love what Emily came up with…
Lots of pretty storage was important to place all the toys, legos and blocks Sienna had.
A Place to Chill, Play + Daydream
Sienna’s favorite spot at the end of the day is in this giant teepee filled with colorful pillows. She is often found here reading a book or playing with her dolls after a long day at the park or crafting. 🙂

Big thanks again to Emily and her team for creating the perfect playroom for our daughters. Sienna loves it so much and I know once Dakota gets a bit older, the two of them will have so much fun here. And thanks as well to Target for this amazing opportunity!
BTW….if you like the look of our playroom, you may be interested to know that we also worked with Emily on our nursery, we’ll be sharing that here next week! You can see more from the makeover on Emily’s site today as well.
