navy living room decor

In the navy

Navy interiors are really on trend for 2017. Paired with white, it brings a pop of colour while remaining classy, intemporel and fresh with its undeniable beach house vibe. Combined with retro colours like mustard, it can also be part of a more retro 1970’s interior. Try incorporating it into your design scheme with new navy upholstery, upcycled dark blue furniture or curtains for a cosy, calming atmosphere.

Indoor climbing plants

Cacti and terrariums were already big in 2016 and the green wave is set to last with indoor climbing plants now on every plant lover’s hot list.

Think Devil’s Ivy vine, Philodendron, Swedish Ivy, Spider Plant, or succulents like String of Pearls and String of Bananas. These plants tend to like being placed near filtered light: a window fitted with light curtains or venetian blinds would be a great option.

You will need hanging planters: trendy options with retro macrame, beaded details and terracotta will bring great design flair and brighten up your space.

hygge home decorating idea

Hygge

Everyone’s been talking about it for months and it’s become truly influential this year: hygge, is the Danish word that can be roughly translated as “cosy”. It’s been hailed more of a lifestyle than a pure design trend but it’s already making waves in the design world. The hygge craze is difficult to pinpoint as it encapsulates many aspects but translated into the home, it means dim lighting, cushions, blankets: it’s about feeling good in your own home.

modern farmhouse living room

The minimalistic, modern farmhouse

The modern farmhouse trend has been around the block for quite a while but it always manages to rejuvenate itself with fresh and interesting elements. There are many ways to translate this trend into your home but this year is all about sleeker, more minimalist farmhouse style: the sempiternal all-white farmhouse colour scheme is mixed with accents of black, wood, bamboo and copper. Mix and matching is still in but opt for cleaner lines and warm but more discrete tones such as natural materials, warm greys, white and blacks.

40 TV Wall Decor Ideas

Wall Decor Ideas

So, you have finally decided to place your new flat screen on the wall, but now you have a problem. You see, it might be cool and trendy to have your tv on the wall, but you now need to think about decorating around a tv when the flat screen itself becomes the dominant feature. In other words, how do you make sure that your TV wall decor compliments things rather than either fading into the background or becoming too dominant?
Going Plain.
First, you could decide to keep things plain and simple and this is especially good if you are not only going for the large screen TV, but also a speaker system. Mount everything on the wall with chrome finishings and then think about a single color on the wall to make it really stand out. Consider adding a mount for your DVD player as well just to complete the look.
Add A Large Floral Pattern.
Think about using this as a feature wall and decorate it as such by using a large floral pattern wallpaper whilst the other walls in the room are kept plain. Make sure that the wallpaper that you use is dark and offers a contrast with the other walls. One other thing to consider is to have the color of the wallpaper lighter if the mounts are dark or vice versa.
Creating A Border Around The TV.
In order to add some depth to the wall consider using color to add a border around the TV. One option is to add a dark color as the border with a lighter color making up the rest of the wall as this will give some extra perspective and just help the wall to come alive. You may wish to use the large floral pattern idea instead of one solid color, but due to the space that you will be using be careful not to go too big or the pattern will begin to really dominate.
Those are just three main options that are available to you when you are thinking about decorating around a TV. As you can see, there are various ways in which you can take this ideas and adapt them to fit your own individual needs. There is no doubt that with some simple decor you can not only create one amazing wall, but finish off the entire lounge in a stylish and very modern way.

20 Beautiful Living Room Layout with Two Focal Points

0

When we enter a room, our eye is usually drawn to a specific item or area in the space-the space’s focal point-a fireplace, painting, TV or a large picture window. If the room has one focal point, you can arrange your furniture around it to create a sense of order in the space. Decorating the room becomes more complex when it has more than one focal point.

Rooms sometimes look disorganized or messy because too many objects are attracting your attention. Carefully arranging the furniture in a room with two focal points makes the space unique and interesting. Check out the living room spaces we have created for you.

2. Private Residence

Here is another example of a piano that fits seamlessly into its surroundings. The white color plays off the sofa and painted ceiling, while the piano-size nook blends the instrument into the bookcases.

3. Austin Contemporary Living Room

4. Black Marlin Circle

Echelon Custom Home

Separating the television and fireplace within the same space is difficult to get right, but it’s done masterfully here. The wood paneling running up the wall and over the ceiling to surround the fireplace wall makes for a perfect integration – it almost feels as if they are on the same wall.

5. Grandin Residence

Textured brown tiles

Drawing Dept

Textured brown tile surrounds this Rumford-style fireplace, creating a clear focal point against the white walls and built-ins. While this is a functional wood-burning fireplace, the homeowners opted to skip the mess, hassle and heat of a fire and light their hearth with candles instead.

6. Jasmine 2 Living Room

7. Jolly Rancher Living Room

7 Living Room Color Schemes that will Make Your Space Look Professionally Designed

0
colorful-livingroom

If you want a living room that’s worthy of showing up in a home décor magazine, you need to start with a good color scheme. It’s not all about the color you choose for the wall. You want a look that’s well-balanced throughout the space, paying careful attention to how colors in the furniture, floors, walls, and artwork all complement each other.

It’s all too common to err on the side of caution, sticking with a neutral color scheme that just comes off as boring. On the other hand, you don’t necessarily want to make decisions that are so bold that they make others cringe.

We’ve put together a short list of some of the best color schemes for your living room. As you look through the images, you’ll quickly see how incorporating a few key colors can set the tone you want. Whether you’re looking for a tranquil space for relaxing or something happy and energizing, you’re sure to find a few ideas that will work for you.

1. Pretty with Pink

Pretty with Pink

When you have too much pastel pink in your home, it can start to feel like the home of a little old lady. Using the light pinks alongside the cool grays that you see here gives the room a more sophisticated feel. The darker gray seen in the pillows offers a nice visual contrast, ensuring that the other colors in the space don’t get washed out.

2. A Calming Sea of Blues

A Calming Sea of Blues

If you want a nice, relaxing space, stick with light colors like these. While everything is pastel, painting the trim on the ceiling a slightly different shade helps the eye stay interested. The blues are subtle, found throughout the space in little details, like the lamp, the coffee table centerpiece, and the pillows. Using these colors against a neutral background is perfect because it makes it easy to change the look when you want to. Rather than re-painting everything, you simply need to change the accent pieces.

3. Bold Colors from Art

Bold Colors from Art

One of the best ways to find a color scheme that works for you is to start with a favorite piece of art. Here, the bright color of the girl’s dress might seem like an unusual choice, but it really works nicely when paired with the other colors. The magenta is on the opposite side of the color wheel, so it offers a sharp contrast to the bright greenish-gold color in the curtains. The dark blue-gray around the windows might seem too dark in other spaces but mellows out the bright colors in this room.2017

4. Defining Space with the Accent Wall

Defining Space with the Accent Wall

In an open concept living area like this one, it can be difficult to define the space. You’ll see that it isn’t a problem when you choose to paint the accent wall in a nice, dark color. The hardwood floors in this home really stand out, so the owner has incorporated that color into the overall plan for the color scheme. Since the floor and the accent wall are dark, they need to be balanced out with a large, light-colored sofa and throw rug to complete the look.

5. The Pop of Color

The Pop of Color

Liking a bold color such as deep magenta doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to stick with bright colors throughout the space. In this color scheme, there’s a background of cool blue that allows the bright color to pop out at you. An especially nice touch here is the conscious color choice for the picture frames and table legs. The gold looks different than the usual black or brown frames you might see, and really stands out against the light blue walls.

6. Neutral Isn’t Boring

Neutral Isn’t Boring

Grays and blues are generally thought of as neutral colors, but you can see here that they don’t have to be boring. A large rug covers the dark-colored hardwood floors, giving the space an airy feel. With a light background on the walls, you need the slightly darker color of the sofa for balance. Turquoise accents have the same calming effects of other blues but are a bit unusual. Though it’s hard to know whether this was an intentional choice or not, it’s interesting to note that the roaring orange of the fire burning in the fireplace is on the opposite side of the color wheel from the turquoise. It looks nice together.

7. Colorful Balance

Colorful Balance

Those who like color in their rooms will love this look. It nicely incorporates different shades of purples and blues for a look that feels complete. Here, a colorful wallpaper adds a lot of visual interest to the space. What really makes this work, though, is the blue trim around the windows. It matches the blue of the wallpaper so that everything feels like it belongs together. Note that when you use a lot of color on the walls and floors, you need to balance that out with accents that are more neutral, like the white pillows and lampshade in this room.
