Japanese studio SANAA has completed a sinuous constructing of glass, concrete, steel and wood that winds across the landscape of a nature reserve in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Named The River in reference to its ribbon-like roof, the creating frames both public services and meandering walkways for Grace Farms, a new 80-acre (32 hectare) reserve of meadows, woods, wetlands and ponds.

The structure’s organic kind was developed by SANAA architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa to match with its normal setting – equivalent to the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion the pair completed in 2010.

The slender roof is supported by easy columns. Beneath it, a series of glazed volumes accommodate rooms devoted to artwork, training and community, like a library, a gymnasium and youth centre, a living and dining area, and a multi-goal pavilion.

SANAA has also renovated an previous barn to develop a reception spot, as effectively as training amenities and spaces for the Grace Local community Church.

“The intersection of landscape, architecture, art, faith, justice and community will create a new variety of room for guests and non-earnings to collaborate for excellent,” said Sharon Prince, president of Grace Farms Foundation.

“We invite folks to shape their personal private experiences at Grace Farms, get a quiet nature stroll and have a cup of tea, join an artwork and architecture tour, see a functionality, get portion in a justice initiative or reflect on your faith,” she added. “The prospects are as open as the landscape itself.”

The landscape style was a collaboration between SANAA and landscape company OLIN, and includes community gardens, athletics fields and nature trails.

All trees felled for the duration of the building were used to offer wood for the building’s furnishings.

Grace Farms opens on 9 October with a two-day programme of events, which will include the unveiling of new site-particular artworks by Thomas Demand, Teresita Fernández and Susan Philipsz, and a textile piece by Olafur Eliasson.

Information of these artworks were announced by Kazuyo Sejima at a lecture at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, as portion of the “In Our Time” series organised by associate architecture and design curator Beatrice Gallilee.
