When you think of remodeling your kitchen the first thing you think about might be dollar signs. Kitchen renovations can bring a lot of equity to your home, but they can also cost a pretty penny.
What if I told you there were small improvements that can make a big difference in your kitchen? Improvements that wouldn’t break the bank, and do not require your rerouting your plumbing or electrical.
The kitchen is one of the rooms that gets the most traffic in your home. It isn’t just where you cook and eat. It’s a place where family members gather to talk and share stories, and where memories are made. You want your kitchen to be a place where you’re comfortable, and where you want to spend your time.
It is possible to modernize your kitchen with small changes and on a small budget. Here’s how.
Add A Bit of Color
Fifteen years ago, dark wood cabinets were everywhere. But today people are having a little more fun with their cabinet colors. There are white cabinets, grey cabinets, blue, and even green. Some people are taking it a step further and doing one color for their top cabinets and another for the bottom. All of these ideas can do a lot to modernize your kitchen.
This does not mean you have to completely change out your cabinets though. With some sand paper, paint, and a little bit of hard work you can completely transform your kitchen at only a fraction of the cost.
Change Out the Hardware on Your Drawers and Doors
One of the easiest, and cheapest, ways to update your kitchen is to simply change out the hardware. Look for options that match the style of the rest of your home to create a cohesive look. This entire project can be done for less than a hundred dollars if you’re careful with your budget.
Or Take Off the Doors Completely
Another trend in kitchen cabinetry that’s really taking off is the idea of open shelving in your kitchen. This allows you to show off your dishes and glasses or add more decorative accessories to your kitchen if you wish.
Instead of spending a ton on floating shelves though, you can simply take off the doors on your top cabinets to create a similar look. Just make sure to paint the inside of the cabinets so it matches the rest of your design.
Update Your Technology
When you think about updating your technology in your kitchen, you mind might go to a touchscreen fridge or an oven that can connect to your WIFI. Both can quickly take their toll on a small budget.
If you do not have thousands of dollars to spend on new appliances, but still want to add a bit of technology to your kitchen you can consider adding a touchless kitchen faucet instead. These faucets are convenient to use, create less mess, and actually help you to keep your kitchen more sanitary since you aren’t touching dirty hands to knobs throughout the day.
Consider Your Lighting
Nothing can date a kitchen quite like an ugly light fixture and changing them out is a quick and easy way to modernize any kitchen. The best thing is, you can change the look of your lights without changing where they are placed.
A pendent light can change the entire look of a room and can cost less than a couple hundred dollars if you hang them yourself. Hang them above your island, or your kitchen table so that they are not in the way of taller guests or family members.
