Casa Sierra Leona: A Mexico City Tribute To Modernism

This stunning home from architect José Juan Rivera Río is located on the outskirts of the Mexico City sprawl. Built in 2014, the home takes its inspiration from the modernism of the 1960′s but puts its own beautiful modern twist on the style.

Located on the outskirts of Mexico City, in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood (or colonia), the house is striking from all angles.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Friday is typically a nice day, isn’t it? There’s a certain magic in the air midday. When I worked in corporate, I’d hang out with my colleagues chatting about weekend plans and discussing our week and silly upper management. We’d disappear for coffee, for that final jolt of caffeine to push us through until 5pm when we’d be free at last like birds.

outdoorsMIY

Now as a freelancer, there is no such thing as the end of a work week. My work is continuous now, always on my mind and I work weekends even when I don’t want to. And yet, Fridays are still magical unicorn kind of days, there is still that Friday feeling buzz. I’d like to wish you a magical Friday and a beautiful evening filled with hope, then promise tomorrow, and the finding of good things on Sunday for you and your family (and little ones, if you have them). For now, I’m leaving you with gorgeous inspiration from a site I recently discovered from one of the founders, Nessa, called Made In You, based in France. Look at their gorgeous event styling… Makes me want to float away.

Have a nice weekend! Oh, and a big thanks to Elle Decoration UK for featuring Decorate With Flowers in their June 2014 issue – I just discovered it yesterday and was so pleased.

Oh! And we’ve added a co-teacher to Blog Boss, Fiona Humberstone, and she’ll be teaching many great topics including full-on blog branding such as the absolute essentials of color psychology, making design decisions that reflect your style and using color psychology to influence your editorial decisions so that you communicate with authenticity and consistency. This class is for ALL LEVELS. Read more here and register before our lovely online class sells out. Also please note that all classes next year will be very different and pricing will change, and none of the current classes from Blogging Your Way will be offered anymore. We are completely changing everything! So if you have been wanting to take a Blogging Your Way e-course, this is a great time to jump on board. This is the last one we’ll be teaching this year and Blog Boss will not be taught again.

Bye everyone, see you on Monday!

The Office Gets A Tiny Kitchen

office kitchen office kitchen by thenester featuring shelves furniture

There’s a tiny little wall in my 400 square foot office/craft room/guest house/attached-to-the-barn-room.

Here’s where the office started,

here’s where it went for awhile,

here’s what it looked like two weeks ago.

As we were working on the barn, we realized it would be so great to have a sink and kitchen area where we could heat up food or simply pull out cold bottled waters from the refrigerator without having to lug it out from the house.

It’s super simple, just 3 cabinets from ikea, a small sink, a rolling cart, some adorable white appliances, all packed in the corner of my office.

Chad and Sean are working on it today.

Here’s the main wall we are using as the “kitchen” from left to right we are hoping to squeeze in a stove, 15 inch ikea cabinet, 24 inch ikea sink base, 15 inch ikea cabinet, and a dishwasher. It’s not going to be a kitchen we use often, no one is really going to be cooking big huge meals in here, but it will be nice to have when we need it and now we can have guests stay in the office/guest room/what do I call this? and they can have their own kitchen which is pretty awesome for all of us.

Just for fun here’s what I made on the ikea planner. The kitchen wall dimensions & window placements are correct but the rest of the room is just an educated guess.

Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 10.05.57 AM

It’s so helpful to see it all in cartoon form in the room.

The plan is for the refrigerator to sit on this long wall between the window and that pink column. Normally, I don’t like a fridge sitting all by its lonesome, but this particular refrigerator is so pretty that I don’t think it will be an issue. Plus, I found that pink column last week at The Depot at Gibson Mill and I think that will be the perfect partner to sit next to the refrigerator and help give it more of a sense of place.

I’ll be working in the barn most of today (again), we moved in the furniture and I’m officially in my happy place. Monday, I’m joining in a fall tour and instead of featuring our house, I’ll be decking out the barn for fall. I can’t wait for you to see how it’s turning out!
