Here is more information from Pedrali:

The global and always connected market has completely transformed the needs of workers. More and more workspaces are getting places of social meeting and interaction, not just working environments. Sleek and functional spaces with an aesthetic appeal too.

At Orgatec (Cologne, October 21-25 – Hall 9.1 Booth C59 B58) Pedrali presents new products and ideas for workspaces and meeting areas through a space designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects that is set up as a sort of catalog on a three-dimensional scale.

The exploring patterns within product families and settings are definitely free and nevertheless marked and led by the chromatic outline of the flooring as well as by other bookmark elements in the perspectives, which underline different points of the space and provide clues of information and reference. In the centre, behind the reception, a stairway for exhibiting the single products progressively rises upwards as if it was a wing surrounding the outfit.

Piet Hein Eek Prints Rijksmuseum Artworks Onto Flatpack Stools

The most recognisable paintings from the art collection of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum are printed onto the seats of these plywood stools by Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek.

Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek designed the Plywood Print Stool collection for the Dutch wallpaper manufacturer NLXL LAB.

Hein Eek combined modern wood cutting and printing technology with traditionally painted images by Dutch Masters, sourced from the collections of the Rijksmuseum.

The designer used a specialised wood printer developed by Canon to create the printed seats for the stools, which were influenced by the reproductions of famous paintings often found on museum gift shop items.

“This product can only exist through today’s techniques, CNC wood cutting machines and wood enabled printers,” said Hein Eek, who launched a range of chunky wooden furniture constructed from the small off-cuts earlier this year.

By printing directly onto the surface of the seat, the grain of the plywood shows through the reproduced paintings and drawings.

According to the designer, it was the contrast between different production processes, materials and images that led to the development of the stool.

“I thought it would be a great idea to combine these innovations with century-old Dutch Masters from the Rijksmuseum collection,” said the designer.

The stools come flat-packed in bags designed to be hung from shop display rails, and are designed to be self-assembled. Three tapered plywood legs slot together to form a base for the seat.

The Plywood Print Stool follow Hein Eek’s Scrapwood Wallpaper range for the brand – a matte printed wallpaper that mimics the texture of wood – and are the first non-wallpaper product to be sold by NLXL.

The collection will be on display at Dutch Design Week, taking place from 18 to 26 October in Eindhoven, where Hein Eek is also showing a rug patterned with grids and circles as part of a range by other Netherlands-based designers.

Trugs le panier en bois cintré par Jane Crisp

Jane Crisp, designer anglaise revisite le traditionnel panier de transport, baptisé Trugs, elle utilise le bois cintré, courbé afin d’obtenir des pièces uniques et originales.

« A refreshingly contemporary take on the classic trug. While the fluid form references the traditional process and materials, Crisp adds an unexpected touch by juxtaposing brass and copper with oak.«

DIY Designer Look-A-Like Spotted Bag

Polka-Dot-Bag-2

Although I’ve been known to drop quite a bit of cash on a piece of furniture or designer accessory for our home, I’m pretty stingy when it comes to fashion. I almost purely shop at Target or our local J.Crew super clearance store and hardly ever pay full price for items in my wardrobe. And while I do have a penchant for anything and everything “Kate Spade,” I’ve never shopped anywhere but the outlet.

So despite catching sight of (and subsequently falling head over heels for) this \$389 leather polka dot bag, it never once occurred to me to click “Add To Cart.” What it did elicit though was a spontaneous brainstorm session with myself on how I could get the look on my frugal DIY budget. Read on for my under-\$30 alternative.

First, you’ll need a leather (or faux leather) bag. Mine came from Target at the beginning of the season and cost just \$29.99. It had the shape I wanted, reminiscent of my inspiration image, and a price that I could afford. Now to add my polka dots. For this, I grabbed my handy dandy black Sharpie marker and simply scribbled my dots right on the faux leather finish of the bag. That was it!

The black polka dots on my inspiration bag made it even easier because of their uneven quality, so my unsteady hand was actually welcomed in this project. I followed a simple eye-balled grid pattern all the way across the outside of my bag, let it dry for about 15 minutes just to be sure that nothing would smudge and then hit the streets in style. How’s that for frugal fashion?

Kerri’s work has been featured in Martha Stewart magazine, no doubt you’ll find a space in your home for one or more of her prints too!
