Styled, by Emily Henderson ($ 19.96)
Earlier this week, I admitted to being just a bit infatuated with the design of Emily Henderson—and now I’m making things worse by singing the praises of her new book, Styled: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Bookshelves. Luckily, I’m not one to dwell too long on what other people think, and so I’m marching forward with gusto despite the fact that I’m clearly taking things too far. At least I can rest assured knowing that you have my back and can laugh off my eccentricities! Fingers crossed, anyway. Let’s get into specifics below.
WHO SHOULD READ IT
Styled was one of those books that I knew I would eat up as soon as it arrived on my doorstep, and I can safely say that the experience was nothing short of delicious. The book starts off with a style diagnostic, à la Secrets From A Stylist. Truth be told, I didn’t feel like my own quiz results totally nailed my style aesthetic, but happily, Emily goes on to list out all of the different style matches so that you can sort of pick and choose what feels most natural to you. The rest of the book takes off from there, explaining how to style any type of space, with real life homes pictured by way of an illustration. If you are drooling over this brief run-through of the book’s basics, than this one is definitely for you!
THE TAKEAWAY
Getting your own styling formula down pat and putting it to good use throughout your home is one of the easiest ways to add a sense of intentional design to any room. And this book is a great way to break into the art of styling, what with the handy tips, easy-to-recreate photos, and relatable tone. Ultimately, this is one of those wonderfully elusive easy—and BEAUTIFUL—reads that I can’t get enough of.
FAVORITE STYLED VIGNETTE
Well, aside from the cover image (which is really just the bee’s knees), I’m just barely figuratively drooling over the shelf styling on pages 118 and 119. I may or may not have searched for vintage bowling ball pins on eBay as a direct result of seeing that lower righthand vignette (spoiler alert: nada).
If you’ve read (or plan to read) the book, be sure to leave your own review in the comments! And don’t forget to tag us in your social shares and use the hashtag #DGDonmycoffeetable for a chance to be featured.
